We're in Santa Fe for a few days and have heard about some of the northeast New Mexico State Parks that have waterfront sites (river or lake), but after looking at information on these parks on the state park website, I can't tell which might have sites on the water and which are close to the water. Any help would be appreciated.

We're leaving here on Monday and would like to find a couple parks in the NE of the state with waterfront sites to spend a few days.

Storrie Lake State Park is very near Las Vegas. At one time they had some sites by the small lake. Photos

But...at 8,000 feet, Cimarron Canyon State Park is "Set in New Mexico's high country, where spectacular palisade cliffs and clear running waters dominate the landscape, Cimarron Canyon State Park is part of the 33,116-acre Colin Neblett Wildlife Area -- the largest wildlife area in the state. Elk, deer, bear, turkey and grouse attract hunters in the fall and winter. Wildlife viewing is plentiful as songbirds, elk, deer, bear, turkey and grouse call the park home."
There is a small river (something about like a creek back east-but we are out west) close to the campsites.

Eagle Nest State Park has a new small campgound, on electric, etc. Not sure how near the lake.

Non-State Parks with lakes:

Abiquiu Lake -US Army Corps of Engineers campground, we have driven by but not stopped, they say it has excellent facilities surrounded by red sandstone cliffs and mesas in "O┬┤Keefe Country." Site
Abiqui On the way from the Santa Fe area to Chama area.

Santa Cruz Lake Recreation Area a BLM site with campgrounds is 30 miles north of Santa Fe. We have stayed there, a nice area & offers two campgrounds, the North Lake Campground and the Overlook Campground, which offers a great view down onto the lake.

Also Army Corps of Engineers---Cochiti Lake between Santa Fe & Albur'que.

Another state park: Fenton Lake State Park is a small out of the way park/lake surrounded by beautiful ponderosa pine forests. We camped there once, a very nice place. Sites are pretty close to the lake.

Also a neat State Park with some sites over looking the lake. Heron Lake State Park near Chima. Heron

Check the maps of the campgrounds on line, perhaps they will show how close are the lakes. But after looking at Storrie Lake's map, maybe not a good idea. [emoticon]
