So many of you have wrote, so without having to quote all of you - let me say thank you to everyone for all of the wonderful replies, suggestions and tips. I love being able to come here and get the info I need.

Actually, I was hoping a 4:00AM Start, but the DW didn't like that idea. So I am hoping to leave work early and be on the road by 3:30pm. "Hoping" [emoticon]

When overnighting while traveling, I leave the TV attached, but disconnect the power connection. Maybe I don't have to, but I sleep better knowing that the battery on the car will be OK in the morning.

we camped in brimley st park in july nice park close to soo ste marie.i dont know about mich st parks but in ohio if you get in after they are closed you just pick a site and fill out an envelope and leave your $ in a mailbox. we are also new to hybrids just got a palomino stampede 232 after 8 years in a cloeman taos pop up, 2 trips in the new rig and we love it. we did learn a lesson last year while camping in the alleghany forest in new york, a family came in late and turtled their rig still hooked to their tv. during the night hurricane ike remnants blew in an we lost power at the cg the next morning they were going site to site looking for jumper cables, so i would disconnect my trailer from my tv just to be safe

Sounds like a great trip, enjoy!
We don't turtle often, but when we do, we just unhook power from the truck, like most others. We do put out the slide and let down stabilizers. Depending on the floor plan of your htt, all three of you should be able to sleep comfortably, another plus to the hybrid in my opinion.
As far as where to stay, that is totally personal preference. We try to stay only at state parks, etc. or at recommended rv parks right off the interstate.

Someone else may already have mentioned it but there are many casinos in Michigan that are RV friendly and allow free overnight parking. Some have RV parks and others it's a big gravel or asphalt lot.

See the link in my signature block.

Happy travels!
