We are headed for the Alamogordo, White Sands, NM region on this our first ever RV trip. The first few days we must stay close to the White Sands area because of a photo course that requires being there before sunrise and after sunset.

Does anyone know of some great campgrounds in the area, either full hookup or public lands?

We have researched “Road Runner” and gotten conflicting reviews.

Oliver Lee sounds great and we plan to go there as well as Cloud Croft.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow, what a great place to do the course! I'd love to join you.

We had more or less the same problem with camping near White Sands, so I look forward to seeing reponses, too.

There is a state park just south of Alamogordo on highway 54. Oliver Lee state park is about 10 miles south of highway 70 and 54 junction.

Oliver Lee State Park is my suggestion.
Be aware, there may be snow in Cloudcroft.
Have fun

There are several RV parks in Alamogordo which is about 13 miles from WSNM. I would stay at the the Evergreen RV park before the Road Runner. It is only about two blocks away from the RR. There is another on White Sands Blvd, think it is called White Sands Community RV park, also a nice park. If you go another 5-7 miles away from WSNM towards Tularosa you will find the Boot Hill RV Park/ Resort. New, a very nice young couple (owners) who live on site with their kids. Free coffee and pastries every morning. Alamogordo is as close as you are going to get to WSNM unless you can get into the Fam Camp At Holloman AFB which is 6 miles from WSNM.

We stayed at Boothill this summer for three days, very nice people and a well maintained park.

Oliver Lee state park! Just stayed there last month for the White Sands balloon fest. Make reservations if you need electric hookups, just in case.

Thanks, all!

Does anyone know which of these places is closer to White Sands: Boot Hill, Oliver Lee or another place?

It only matters the days of the meetings, after that, no problem.
