An often overlooked National Monument is Casa Grande Ruins in Coolidge, AZ. It is an ancient 4 story building in the middle of the desert that is really amazing. Take the tour and get the real story of these people and the amazing things they did. They also built over 1,000 miles of irrigation canals.

It would help to know what you are calling the Southwest, are we talking about West Texas, Southern California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado or just AZ and NM? Are you only interested in the deserts or will you want to see the mountains and coast too? Late Spring or early fall will allow you to see it all without weather problems. Spring can have winds so I would favor fall--October (NOW) is about right for the whole region.

You can go to Fort Hucucha in Sierra Vista Also you can go to Wilcox AZ witch is close to Benson. There is 2 museum in Wilcox one for Cochise and one for REX Allen. You are headed in to some very good history. Take your time and enjoy it.=== GOOD LUCK

Also check on the hiway first , as we have many hiways in Az that has too many curves & too narrow for a 33 ft fiver & truck.
hwy 89A from Prescott to Cottonwood - Hwy 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff - Hwy 89 from Prescott south to Wilcox - Hwy 66 from Kingman to Oatman
to name a few
But trere is a lot to see outhere

You need to narrow this down a little. What time of the year. How much time do you have to spend. Are you talking about AZ,NM,CO,UT and TX. Also, do you include CA and NV in the mix?

Agreed it needs to be narrowed down. Some good advice here.

ArmySFCRet is right - Tombstone is a short visit. IMHO a half day is plenty of time in that tourist trap.

But wonderful things in that area - Chiricahua Natl Mon, Ft. Bowie, Bisbee, Wilcox, you name it.

Be safe and enjoy.
