Thank you for the suggestions. We settled on Padre Island. Worked late on Wednesday and had a late start on Thursday but was well worth it.

By the time we were loaded up and ready to go it was already 3:00 PM on thanksgiving. We made a pit-stop at the local Cracker Barrel for thanksgiving dinner. Afterwords we began our journey to Corpus Christi, TX then on to the Malaquite beach area of Padre Island. We arrived at about 1;30 AM and set up camp next to the dunes about 2.2 miles south of the end of the paved road. It was fabulous. We stayed until Sunday morning some time and then went home. I have not been in such a relaxed spot in years. Can't wait till retirement.

Don, was that your party near the end of the pavement? I went to town a couple of times and wanted to say hello when i passed by but your truck was gone both times. Hope you had a great time.

yes we were the two rvs just off the paved road well the one left on Sunday. We drove down the beach on friday but just did not think to look for your truck and rv combo and say hi. we had gone to crackerbarrel ourself for thanksgiving but that was around 6:00. We had a great time and hated to have to leave on Sat but we had a lot to do back home. We went to the Texas state aquarium around noon and left the area at 5:00 and pulled into taylor at 10:00. I do not know why we do not go down more often. and will try not to wait two years before we go. This trip was the first time we ever found any good shells and found close to 100 sand dollars.

Glad you had a good time also.

Very late reply, but we camped at Padre Island NS over Thanksgiving in 2008. For us, daytime temps were borderline for enjoying the beach and downright cold at night requiring the furnace. Still, a nice time to go and not have to worry about mosquitoes.
