I was performing some maintenance on my Fleetwood Bounder yesterday in my garage since all the "Global Warming" was on the ground (i.e. snow) and had my curb side slide extended. When I went to retract the slide, there was a loud pop and the slide would not retract. I climbed under the motorhome and this is what I found.

I understand this assembly is rather expensive and since my unit is a 2006, I presume I would be outside the warranty period. I have searched the forum but have not found any other instance of gearbox failure. Usually it is the motor that fails. Has anyone else seen or heard of any failures of this type.

How about a low price source to purchase a replacement? NorthWest RV Supply does not have a direct replacement part number on their website and it is too early to speak to anyone as they are not answering the phone yet being that they are in the pacific time zone.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Greg

I was on the Power Gear website trying to find a phone number for tech support or something similar but could not find any phone numbers on their website. Does anybody have a phone number for Power Gear?

Thanks,
Greg

Here is the email for a Fleetwood retired factory tech that is on the Bounder Yahoo forum. He has an inside access to Power Gear and can likely help you at about 1/2 the price of retail. He is in California also but will mail parts anywhere. He is a great tech and very honest.

There may be an out.. "You may have other rights which vary from state to state"

You need to contact your state's consumer protection agency to find out if that is the case. Often those "other rights" are 4 years of warranty protection in cases such as this.

Now... From the looks of it, It might be fixable if you can find the right technician.. I'm thinking of some very special welding methods which to be honest I know very little about.. (I just know they exist, never tried 'em)

So, I call the 800 number provided above by Mr. Mark and the first menu choice is:

"If you are an RV Owner, press 1. If you are an RV Dealer, press 2."

Being an RV owner, I press 1. The next statement is:

"Effective July, 2009, we no longer sell replacement parts directly to the RV owner. For price and availability or to place an order, please contact your local dealer. To locate a dealer near you, or to obtain technical information on our products, please visit our website at www.powergearus.com. To repeat this message, press 1."

Then the call is ended.

I guess the message that they are trying to send is this: If you own a Power Gear product and you have an issue with it, they do not want to talk with you (i.e. they do not provide any technical support for the products that they sell). My message for them is: If I have the choice of purchasing a product other than a Power Gear product, that is exactly what I will do.

Buyer beware!

It seems to me, you might have other issues with that slide. Something was putting a lot of stress on that gear box for it to fail that way. If I were you, I'd be searching for the root cause, such as something binding somewhere, because the gear box just may be the symptom of the larger problem.
