We packed up the truck and camper on Friday morning and headed north on highway 395 from southern California. We were traveling with our 2 year old Golden Retriever, Wylie.

We were heading for Mono Lake to do a little snow camping and backcountry skiing.

We arrived at Mono Lake and turned east on highway 120 and drove to the end of the plowed section of the highway.

The road is plowed for about 5 miles going east from highway 395. There is a nice wide spot where they stop plowing and this would be our "camp site" for the next two nights. This camp site had great views of Mono Lake and the Sierra and best of all... no neighbors.

We took a ski on Friday night along the shore of Mono Lake under an almost full moon. On Saturday we moved for the day to the end of highway 158, the June Lake Loop, and went for a ski along Rush Creek.

We skied past Silver Lake which in the summer is full of boaters and surrounded by campers, but not at this time of year.

We returned to our same campsite for Saturday night. Both nights the temps were in the teens. We stayed warm with good sleeping bags and ran the heater every couple of hours to keep the water lines from freezing. It was a great trip and we were home by Sunday night.

This is my first trip report on this site. We have had our camper for a couple of years now and love it!

Since someone asked...Here is Wylie lookin' good in the snow under a full moon.

Thanks for the report. The east side is one of our favorite places on earth but it's a long drive for us in winter with almost all the passes closed. Thanks again and let spring come soon!

Your first trip report but hopefully not your last. Keep them coming! And thanks for showing some of my favorite places (Eastern Sierra) in a different season from my usual visit time.
