they have most of our favorites already mentioned, but I'll add another. I think it is still open for visits. someone will reply as to it being open-----LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE (Laura Ingalls Wilder museum) in De Smet S.D. DEVILS TOWER is worth a trip, nice campground and prairie dogs undermining everything. Once you cross Missouri River lots to see and do.

looks like you picked the right time to go, we go May or June to avoid the crowds and those South Dakota residents let us get caught in their late season snowstorms. Just kidding folks---we love your state, lots to see & do.

In addition to all the South Dakota stops, I would suggest The Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth, MN (less than 1 miles off the highway). Quirky. Be sure to also hit Sioux Falls, SD. Great little cafe overlooking the falls and a good place to stretch your legs. Definitely worth the 5-10 minutes off the highway.

I can't help it...

My Back Yard! [emoticon]

I know you are heading west but if you were heading east, I-90 ( The Mass Pike) overlooks my back yard, I can actually see the traffic looking out my back window.

A few years ago I purchased my truck from Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, ID. (which is located right on I-90). The salesman asked if I need direction home? I said how to I get on I-90 east , he said straight out of the lot, go under the under pass take the first left. I said ok , he said do you need any more directions? I said no, it 2700 miles till my next turn which is a right, go to the traffic light tke a left , my driveway is the first one on the left! [emoticon]

The world is not a big as some people like make it out to be, just take your time so you can take it all in!
