Its pretty country down there- and not a lot of folks make it there. We passed through that area coming from Lewiston on the way to Lake Wallowa just before Labor Day- I wish we had more time to stay- we took Highway 12 from Missoula to White Pass before heading home.

Thanks for sharing.

Would you mind posting some details and thoughts about your raft and frame. I'm thinking about getting one for fishing shallow rivers (as an alternative to a canoe) and the smaller lakes found in parks and forests that typically don't allow gas outboards.

Thanks-Fred

Sure...here are links to the two boats that I used on this trip.
Fishcat and steelheader. Both were used for transportation on the river but we wade to fish. The steelheader osprey is a 9ft cataraft and is much more capable of handling whitewater and carrying gear (full rear deck) for a trip like this. The fishcats have 8ft rocker pontoons and are very easy to row, forgiving for beginners. They are also significantly less expensive. You can fish out of all three in lakes or slow water and I use them especially when access is difficult cause you can carry them down a trail on your shoulders (about 40-50lbs) if you need to (like when we portaged the narrows). Other models of the steelheader have a standup frame that you can anchor and fish from in lakes or rivers. These have a steel frame and are not as portable which is why I chose the Osprey. Let me know if you have other questions.

...beautifully illustrated! Those photos are really sharp/highly defined.

I'll get this into Trip Reports under "fly fishing"...

Thanks!
