Well I just finished my blog telling everyone how easy the border crossing at Nogales was, no problems, no sign of road blocks or anything untoward and that I had a long hard day of driving but found a Pemex No.5516 just between Los Mochis and Guasave and there was another RV parked here for the night, I went and visited with them they are from Vancouver and they were parked close to the front of the station and I thought a bit too close to noise and tight for turns so I went off in the corner and parked and just had dinner and it was dark and I heard a banging on my side door, I put the outside light on and a man was yelling in pretty good English for me to open the door and give him my money…I shouted back no go away when another man who I had not seen was at my small window by my sink the window was open and he was pointing a gun at me shouting for denero!!!! I said Ok OK and with the gun he pushed in the screen I told him my money was up front so I quickly pulled in the slide went to the drivers seat and he was there at the door with his gun pointing at me. I had for this very reason bought a dollar store wallet and had 200 pesos in it and a new visa card I had ordered with only 500 dollars credit allowance, I opened the window a crack and threw the wallet out and started up the motor home and drove into the gas station where the pumps were, the two men ran over to a black car and sped away…..I tried to call the police but could get no answer so I shall have to report it in the morning……you know from my previous posts that I praise Mexico and have never felt afraid this was a scary incident but I feel OK just want to let you all know what happened I know this will give the critics ammunition but it doesn’t
change my mind this country and the people are great...now here is a twist I woke up this morning at 5.30am and was getting ready to leave when I noticed something under my wind shield wiper....it was my WALLET everything including my credit card inside except of course the 200 pesos, so that saves me lots of problems,,,after a good sleep I have realized the mistakes I made, parked too far away from other people and the pumps, should have closed my slide and should leave the keys in the ignition...I don`t know how my wallet came back i am pretty sure the punks did not have time to ditch it so did they come back, throw it away the attendant find it I don;t know..anyway I am not tramatised I feel very lucky and happy to be on my way.
Road info
Ist day drive from Nogales to Los Mochis, 11 hours 67 dollars in tolls and no checks and no problems.
Today left at 6am and at 4pm arrived at the El Dorado in Ricon de Guayabitos another 70 dollars in tolls and no problems at all.
I know that is two long driving days and not everyones cup of tea but it suited me to get here and now can elax, the weather is hot and the ocean lovely...hope this helps Les

Les, I'm relieved that you are okay!

Also envying that you are in the south enjoying better weather than we are presently experiencing on Vancouver Island.

Good info - thanks for posting that. We're leaving home Tues for PV and will maybe be a little more cautious than usual. We have stayed in Pemex's south of Acapulco and although it was noisy all night, some ear plugs helped a lot. The usual for us is to not push too far so we can stay somewhere organized. It's no guarantee of security - Mexico or elsewhere, but we sleep better by stopping San Carlos, early start to Maz, then early start to PV. Great to get your CC back ! -Ron

Glad you are ok.

Me, I LIKE snow, and I don't like guns pointed at me.

You tried to call the police and got no answer?? NO ANSWER!!!! Not exactly Chamber of Commerce advertising copy, is it.

Now I know for sure I'll not need to worry about the ease of crossing a border --- that I now have no intention of crossing.

Too many other places to go!

Glad you're OK, because in the big scheme of things that's all that really matters.

Mexicokid...I mean this in the kindest way....you need a swift kick in the "you know what" Haven't we been advised over and over again to not do what you just did..... Maybe you got the message eh!!! Spend a few peso's and find a safe park!!!

Glad you're still with us. I guess any stickup that you can walk away from is a good one.

Glad your OK, but if I wanted to get robbed I'd move back to Miami, that way I wouldn't even have to leave the country. Seriously , that's a lawless place to visit.

This has two great lessons:
1. Canada and USA are beautiful places and very safe
2. Overnighting in a parking lot anywhere (Mexico, USA, Canada) can be dangerous. Why not spend a few bucks and find a safe and quiet place!
