Didn't exercise the generator for 9 months and it won't start even with fresh fuel. I couldn't find instructions on the CumminsOnan website on how to change the carburetor. Plan to order carburetor but need help on how-to instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Model: Onan Marquis Gold 5500 gas
Carburetor: Part# 541-0765 (I think).

Thanks in advance.

Try some "start your engine" or "gum-out" first. A lot cheaper and just might work.

Is the fuel filter built into the carb? They had a recall on those. The new ones just have a long tube and an inline filter.Onan replaced mine for free.

What have you tried so far? I would try starter fluid first...
Keep us posted.

Nothing yet. I was going to buy the carburator spray and try that first. What is the starter fluid? something goes into the gas tank or spray onto the carburator. The local shop here wanted $195 for a new carburator plus $150 for labor. I emailed Onan but they said they don't have instructions...

Try sea foam. I bought a motor home that had set for a long time. After running sea foam both motor and generator run like new. Can be bought at tractor supply. Good luck

Starter fluid is basically Ether... You spray it into the carburetor and crank it up. It helps get the motor going by (momentarily) burning the ether off and cranking the engine enough to pull in some gas...

Worth a try.

Onan does NOT supply carb rebuild kits due to all Onan carbs are built for California emissions, which require a tamperproof carb
That said, you CAN clean out the carb and it is easy. On the bottom of the carb is the fuel bowl and you will see a plastic housing around the bowl screw that allows you to turn it 1/2 way. Gently cut that plastic housing OFF and then you will be able to unscrew the bowl and then drop it out. You will see all the gunk in the bowl. IF you understand small carbs you will know where the needle jet is, it unscrews( very small slot screwdriver) and you will find 4 rows of 4 microsmall pin holes. Those small holes are what are clogged up. You then use carb spray and compressed air and clean/blow out the jet holes, clean out the bowl and clean out the float/needle for the float with carb cleaner. The gasket/o rings will not get damaged from this so you can reuse them. Doug
