Hope this isn't a repost; I did a search and couldn't find anything. Found it a good read.

A slightly different take on truck test.

I wish they would do the same test with the newer Cummins 6.7. With 800# ft of torque, it would be interesting.

I was looking at the photos and the one on the first page showed a truck hauling a trailer up the "mighty" Montezuma grade in Borrego Springs. The grade is 11 miles and about 3500 feet. Many Rvers if not the majority avoid it and go over the easier Yaqui Pass. I think for value a lightly used Dodge is hard to beat.

Kind of strange to tow test with so light a trailer. I would think that trailer is more suited to half ton gasser. If I didn't mountain tow 10k I wouldn't own a diesel. I'd also bet 99% never go off road with these trucks.

Did anyone else notice how closely this comparison matches the very first pickuptrucks.com comparison. That would be the one where at the end of their comparison, the GM outpointed the Ford by 1/2 point. IIRC it was 98.5 to 98.

So, after a year of constant haranguing about which truck is the best or the fastest or whatever, we come down to reality. It was a tie...and if you want to save some dollars...the Dodge costs less...

IMO, all winners...no losers...drive them all and buy the one that works best for you

So if it's a tie for GM and Ford at 34, Dodge must be the overall winner with 39 points?

I am sure that they have the statistics, but a 5000 pound trailer may be an average or heavy load for most of these trucks. There are an awful lot of folks who buy a HD diesel for reasons other than needing the ability to tow heavy.

Just thinking about folks on my street. Next door neighbor has either a F250 or F350 that he occasionally uses to haul a small tandem axle dump trailer. Neighbor across the street has a Ram 2500 that I have never seen him use to tow anything, neighbor up the street has a Ram 2500 that he will occasionally use to tow about a 22' boat. Two more folks up the street have diesels that they hook a 4 horse trailer to. Not sure what the weight would be on those, but certainly not anywhere near the max towing capacity.

it was a good read allthough I think a 7-8000 lbs trailer would be a more real world test. I think the article demostrates that all 3 make a great product and it really boils down to personal taste.

I wish my job involved getting paid to go out to play with new trucks.

Very interesting read for sure and goes along with what I've felt for a while, all of the current trucks are fairly evenly matched in real-world situations and it really comes down to personal preference.

Competition only makes for better products. Glad to see all three are great trucks, and most of us would be happy with any of them.
