Hello All. I have created a spreadsheet to calculate the effect of a hitch extension on the axle weights of the truck. The math is thorough and should be accurate. You will need to download the document to use it as Google Docs is not compatible with some of the items in the spreadsheet. It was created with Excel 2010 but should be backwards compatible if office converts it properly. The cells in Green can be manipulated to change the resultants.

Let me know what you think!
Cheers,
Keith

I do it the old fashioned way...

WB = Wheelbase Length
HA = Hitch to Axle distance
TW = Tongue Weight
FA = weight removed from front axle
RA = weight added to rear axle

HA / WB x TW = FA

TW + FA = RA

Example-

170" wheelbase length
60" hitch to axle distance
500 lb tongue weight

60 / 170 x 500 = 176

176 lbs are removed from the front axle

500 + 176 = 676

676 lbs are added to the rear axle

Now move the hitch to axle distance out to 100"...

100 / 170 x 500 = 294

294 lbs are removed from the front axle

500 + 294 = 794

794 lbs are added to the rear axle
