Quote:

the slope has a "burned" appearance from the ridge down into the scree. Any ideas?

This appears to be some land slide (granular material) that has scrubbed what little growth there was, away...

Quote:

For the most part the rocks are actually pretty stable, having settled into interlocking patterns over millenia.

I agree. These jagged broken rock fragments probably act like rip-rap (road builders/civil engineers will know what this is).

Enjoying Part II !

Thanks for taking us along on such a wonderful adventure to a place few of us will ever make. Hiking at altitude isn't an option for me so I really appreciate your trip.

Knowing pictures never do justice, I can only imagine the feelings that stirred your soul as you sat there looking at all of the grandeur layed out before you.

Wow! What gorgeous photos and great commentary! Seldom, you exceed your personal best every time and I hope you didn't wear yourself out too much lugging us along in your backpack.

Thanks again,

Bill

I'm so amazed those beautiful flowers can grow there!!!

Thanks for letting us hitchhike along with you. Those rocks make my ankles hurt!!! Especially now as I sit here with my ankle wrapped in ice. Took a header going into a restaurant the other night. One of those stupid "artsy" curvy sidewalks that I stepped on the edge!!!! [emoticon]

I also bookmarked your blog to my favorites so I can check in!!! [emoticon]

Awaiting part 3!!!! [emoticon]

So far, rocks zero and Eric two. Road rocks didn't eat your tires, trail rocks didn't eat your ankles. What rocks await us in Part III?
