Some bird-crazy folks sure forget all about minimizing their carbon footprints when a rarity shows up. Something similar is in the news at Colusa NWR in Northern CA, where there is some rare Asian duck.
I'm not a serious birder, just wanted to see the migration phenomenon plus it was semester break so there was time to travel. This sort of travel takes the pressure off, no need to tote up great numbers of sightings.

I have been spending the last 5 weeks exploring the central valley of California and it has been a great time and I have found it much like you have pictured, in your photos. Thank you for providing me so more places to look up and possibly explore and another great Trip Report.

I suppose those bird-crazy folks might say, "Hey, it sure beats the carbon footprint of flying all the way to Japan to see one!" I'm not a serious birder either, though, so you won't find me in that crowds unless I just happen to be in the area. I love all sorts of flora and fauna (except ticks!) and just enjoy seeing and learning about whatever happens to inhabit the particular locale I'm visiting. Sounds like you're the same.

That owl was a surprise! I was looking for the other birds when I caught a glimpse of it flying along the big ditch between the road and the other birds. It landed and posed for me. Wow!

Great trip Tiger, sorry I missed it earlier. I have to say...I do like your rig, a lot! It's fun to venture away from the immediate home base camping every now and then isn't it? We were just in Borrego between Christmas and New Years, I half expected to see you.
