I've been with AAA since 1970 and we have all our cars, jeeps, etc. insured with them. I just automatically added the RV when we bought it. We are definitely getting a multi vehicle discount, BUT, is it the best company for RV insurance ?? I upgraded our towing to include RVs, but the one time I needed a tow (stuck in the sand), I was charged $700. (this was admittedly off-road and not near any large city)
I have already moved our 1972 Firebird to a company that just insures classic cars.
I've done some research but not enough to qualify as due diligence !
I would like to hear from this great community regarding your findings and real world experiences with any and all companies.
One question I have is: Should the coach ever be a total loss, are there companies that would pay for a new coach of the same quality, and, if so, is that premium too expensive. I definitely don't want to be underinsured.
Thanks and safe travels

Good evening Michael. In my opinion you would be better off obtaining your RV insurance through a company (Good Sam (GMAC), Miller, etc.) that specializes in insuring RVs. We have had our autos insured with State Farm since the early 1960s, but wouldn't go to them for coach insurance. Auto insurance companies normally cannot relate to the coverage required for an RV. The premium for full replacement cost is not really cost prohibitive, but the normal restriction is that the coach must be new or within 5 years of manufacture.

We have ours with Progressive. We have had excellent service when needed. Good roadside assistance (have had to use it once) for a reasonable fee. We have the coverage for use between 30-150 days/per year. I can't say how it is for full-time coverage. But it covers the motorhome as well as personal effects.

In addition to Progressive, I would suggest also getting quotes from Geico and Nationwide.

National Interstate, Richfield, OH. It is a RV Policy not a glorified car policy
they offer replacement insurance, will insure an LLC, unlike a lot of others. Had a compartment door come open and torn off at interstate speed, caused 7K in damage. They where great to work with....

my buddy,s 2009 allegro bus/2007 tahoe suv fulltimers insurance policy was 2K cheaper through NW verses progressive,Geico, gmac
He was with progressive and they wanted almost 4300$ for this policy
He went with NW for 2K less same exact coverage

No one can tell you which insurance company offers the cheapest rates for YOU...![doh [emoticon]](http://www.rv.net/sharedcontent/cfb/images/doh.gif) ... I just did an insurance comparison since my insurance is due March 1st. Allstate, Geico, Progressive, State Farm, National InterState/Gilbert/Explorer, AAA and 21st Century. Of all of them Geico was by far the most expensive, followed by Progressive. AAA doesn't insure full timers. Explorer was the least expensive by almost $500. They were also the only company to offer a 1 year policy. All others were 6 mo. I have had no accidents, no tickets and no claims in the past 5 yrs. That said, what works for me may not work for you. A word of caution though...if you get many quotes, as they run you through credit checks. that will impact your credit score, if that's important to you. Getting five or six quotes may lower your score 10 points or more......Dennis
