Are the Scalibor Protector flea/tick collars safe and effective? 1800PetMeds sells them for about $38 each and they are supposed to be good for up to six months. We haven't had much luck using Frontline and were going to try Advantix II as it has better ratings, but saw the collars and thought about checking them out. Any comments are welcome.

This is a relatively new product and I have no experience with it. Active ingredient looks to be a synthetic pyrethrin, so it is probably similar to the active ingredients in frontline and advantage but newer so may not have as much resistance in insects.

Have you considered a combination heartworm, tick, flea, parasite treatment like Revolution? It is a liquid you apply to the base of their neck. I've used it on all my dogs for years and never had any problems. I've never had any faith in the collars - seen too many flea laden dogs who were wearing a flea collar come into the shelter!
