Just a question. Last week we were out camping and another camper asked if I had any thoughts of my 50A cord being stolen. I told him no, but it might be possible. They are expensive. He thought of an idea to secure it by drilling a hole between 2 pieces of wood and putting it under the tire, using the jacks securing it. I thought of another way that would be good. But I was wondering has anyone ever had this happen to them or is this guy just not trustful of other campers?

If I have to worry about my 50amp cord being swiped, I would look for another place to camp.

Make fun of him if you wish, but a RV dealer in TN recently had over 50 power cords stolen off of motorhomes in their lot - some were cut off right at the hookup compartment. Apparently all those cords (thousands of dollars worth) were taken just for the copper wire.

This concern is certainly as valid as say, the theft of surge protectors, sat. dishes, or ladders. His comments are VALID.to those in the know of such things.

I carry a few thousand dollars worth of power cords and welding cable on my welding truck. Every single one of my cords and cables stays locked up at all times, unless I am actively using them. Theft of copper piping and wiring from construction job sites has been a big problem for a few years now. You are well advised to keep your cables safe by whatever means practical. Parking a tire on the cable will do the trick. Not the best thing for the cable, but better a cable that wears out sooner, than one that isn't there at all. Of course, they can still cut the cable next to the tire.... Not much you can do about that.

In 35 years of camping we have NEVER had anything stolen at any camp ground, Samboree, fair grounds, Rally, over night stop, or boondocking yet. We do lock the bikes at night but the tables, chairs, and grill sit out when we use them.

I know, for copper they can cut the end off and still get it, but even criminals should be expected to do some work and not have everything handed to them. This is the kind of 50amp cord that is detachable from the RV.

Locking your power cord is an effort in futility. Unfortunately if they want it they will get it. Unless you watch the cord 24/7 you already handed to them when you pulled into your site.
