I have always disliked the latch on my MH's screen door. It never seems to do what I want. Opening the slider to reach the latch for entering the MH, is especially annoying.

Here's a video of the modification I made to use magnets in place of the latch:

QUESTION: Do any MH manufacturers use magnets wi the screen door? It seems so simple.

I have Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping), so I try to buy most upgrade parts there.

The bar is by Camco http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012GTVVA/

CW often has it on sale but with shipping it costs me more.

Nice step back in time to simplicity. Now you will be breaking you fellow RVers screen door latches when you try to push them open. How do I know? Yes my 95 Bounder has factory magnets on the screen door. But Fleetwood couldn't stand it being so easy and went to the !@#$%&* latches in 96.

OK, now you've added YET ANOTHER project to my endless RV work [emoticon]. As far as the screen door bar goes, that was one of my first mods and wortth every penny (not often you can say that). EVery screen door should come OE with one. Bought ours on sale with AMazon Prime from CW, so $9.99
I will do the magnet thing since my DW insists on using the stupid little latch we have not the nice big one in the video. Drives her nuts. I'll score some points!

FYI: Rare earth (i.e., strong) magnets are available from many vendors. I got mine from Lee Valley Tools. They have lots of options including relatively inexpensive sets of magnets with matching mounting hardware.

I used 3 x 3/8" and 1 x 3/4" magnets for this modification.

Simple but great idea. Looks like another quick project for my list also. Thanks.
