Death Valley A Weekend Trip
Part3
Darwin Falls and Trona Pinnacles
Nov.11, 2012
Staying the night at Panamint Springs was a good decision as it is said “I slept like a log”. Following our usual routine, Julie was busy in the rather cozy kitchen while I wandered around a bit snapping off morning photos.

Panamint Springs campground is a rustic layout with some planted trees and natural shrubs scattered about by the hand of nature.

Across the highway is some old equipment by the fuel station enjoying their retirement years as display pieces?

After a quick breakfast we’re scooting back to Darwin Falls road just a few short miles from Panamint Springs
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-KhLtwHH/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20021-M.jpg)
It’s an easy enough road that any vehicle can transverse it.

![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-4Rv6zB2/0/S/Darwin%20Falls%20Road-S.jpg)
Only one other vehicle was at the trail head when we arrived.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-gTB3XJ2/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20041-M.jpg)

Wasting no time, Julie and I started our trek up the stream bed towards the falls.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-tNbNfwm/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20044-M.jpg)

Along the way Mother nature had left a sign of how cold it got last night.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-JKxtN4X/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20051-M.jpg)
Julie was bring up the rear as we took a last look at our disappearing TC.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-L7KCfg2/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20053-M.jpg)

For some unknown reason to us a railing was built across the river bed cross ways, looked like all it was doing was catching river debris.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-tFthmCj/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20057-M.jpg)
As the valley narrowed I notice a pipe line hanging from the near by riverside wall.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-jQK3Swx/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20065-M.jpg)
Ever narrowing valley made it seem like the vegetation was thickening, making us to pick our way through.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-FSPtvFx/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20066-M.jpg)

It took us awhile to arrive at the falls, for we’re slow walkers.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-qGRhTJT/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20081-M.jpg)
At last Darwin Falls were within sight.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-fFS4k5R/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20088-M.jpg)

![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-kmfxvLP/0/S/Darwin%20Falls-S.jpg)
On our return leg a herd of young people nearly stampede us in their rush towards Darwin Falls.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-jP3V9jD/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20104-M.jpg)
A better look at the little dam area and its piping system.
![[image]](http://travelingman2.smugmug.com/Travel/Death-Valley-a-Weekend/i-fdpbKHC/0/M/Death%20Valleyca.%2011-11-2012%20part%202%20118-M.jpg)

Time traveled fast and out rig was in sight, near by we saw a couple of small critters.

Back on SR190 a coyote out for a morning stroll, just outside of Panamint Springs.

Zipping through Panamint Spring , Trona Road was quickly gotten to.

Trona Road is a good two lanes all the way to Trona.

Trona Pinnacles
, as I understand they were left behind when ancient seas had dried up leaving these tall columns behind.

Thanks. I've been to most of those places, but not yet to Darwin Falls. Perhaps your trip report will be the inspiration I need.
