I keep one sitting outside every time I set up. Watched a MH in south FL burn to the frame. If a fire extinguisher had been nearby, they would've had only minor damage in the refrigerator area.

Good idea. I'm going to mount one in an outside compartment.

2 experiences in all my years of camping. 1st was out in the desert, luckily we were in camp when a friends converter/charger caught fire. Took 3 small extinguishers to get it out. If he was by himself would have been a total loss.

Another friend just purchased a new stacker from an estate sale. Husband and wife were in a newer 40' motorhome when the right front tire blew. Several electrical wires were run in the area and of course the exit door is right there also. Started fire, extinguisher used, no help. The couple proceeded to the rear of the rig. Latches on emergency exit were opened but, they think due to being stored in a hot environment, the seal on the window had made impossible to open. They did not make it.

I fought fires on Oil Rigs, in the NAVY and power plants. Well head, generator house, engine room, fuel storage tank and 4KV Bus fires.

IF RV catches fire WE are running as far away from it as possible.
I refuse to try and fight a RV fire with any handheld extinguisher.

Insurance will replace.

I don't think your insurance company will replace the forest that burns along with your RV. Not at least attempting to put out a fire, if you have the means available, is an untenable position

I fully agree that escape is the first and foremost action. I have seen a unit burn and it only takes about 3 minutes for one to become fully envolved in flame. With 2 30Lb propane bottles on board -- Get as far away as possible.
The most dangerous thing is all the plastics and the deadly gases they give off when burning.
BTW -- You need to shake those dry-chemical extingishers at least once every 6 months. Th epowder will "Cake" in the bottom if you don't shake them occassionally and their effectiness ids GREATLY diminished. They aren't worth too much to start with. As for count -- I have 3 in the 5ER and one in the truck.
