Looked like a pretty good time to me!!! Are these campgrounds normally closed in the winter or is this the first year?

Yep, Black Bear come in a half dozen different colors!!!

Here is a picture of a "Black Bear" I took in Colorado. Did not look black to me but the local ranger verified it was a black bear.

Great trip report. It is not about the catching it is all about the fishing and camping.

Good plan! I always say that I have used up all of my allowable risk points by being alone (camping or hiking or whatever) and therefore must be extra cautious. I'm glad that someone agrees with me.

Great trip report. That country is usually crowded in warmer seasons. It looks much more beautiful in your photos than it would with vehicles and people everywhere.

Beautiful photos you took. I think we will meander that way the next time we head south for some photography. We were midway on our 6 week trip in September/October when the government shut down all the USFS campgrounds. WE mostly boondocked but several time scamped in USFS campgrounds. One was posted, 2 others were not. No gates so we camped. We were really tired those times so who is gonna kick our two old people who don't like to drive at night? Maybe this will make you feel better that we defied the USFS. This was in Oregon so maybe they aren't as anal as California.

skippro3 is nothing but a scoff-law and a poacher 0 by his admission. His use of an illegal sign leaves him open to all sorts of trouble too
"I gotta get you a USFS key, Buzz. I poach closed campgrounds all the time. I've never been questioned, but then that may be because I made up a magnetic sign for my truck that says American Land and Leisure. (The folks who contract the campground management for the USFS in these parts.)"

Most of the Forest Service campgrounds I go to are subcontracted to concessionaires that close after Labor Day. Open on Memorial Day and close after Labor Day. It pretty much screws with my month of fishing before kids get out of school and my month of fishing after the kids go back to school.

Just remember (as I know you do), any trip is a good trip, as long as everyone comes home safe.

J-J-K, my understanding is that the classification of "black bears" ranges in colors of cinnamon, brown and black.
