We are preparing for a 9 day road trip to Oregon and we are taking along Kayaks for the first time. So just to sort things out we are doing some weekend trips to sort out the storage and use of the new toys and their companion gear. We have worked out loading and unloading the boats to and from the roof racks, Paddles fit behind the passenger seat in the crew cab, PFD's and paddling shoes hang/sit in the dry bath showers. The hardest thing to figure out is what to do with the wheeled scupper trollys. I can stow the frames under the rear seat but the four 10" high 4" wide tires mean I will have to rearrange some of the storage compartments.

So we went out an played and had a ball.
If I have to stay in a campground this one is my speed, only 18 sites and 1 through 6 have at least 100 feet between them

After it had gotten good and dark I took the Kayak solo out onto the lake I had vhf radio contact with Ruth back at the camper. The milky way way was stunning but it was upstaged by a fireball that streaked burning orange across the night sky

I think I paddled for 8 hours in two days and Ruth got in 4 hours. Next weekend is the final dress rehearsal. Sierra Crest, Boondocking, fully self contained to see what fits and what doesn't anything we need and what can be left behind. should be fun.

they are quick release. I will move some stuff around in a compartment and stow them far away from the five finger discount folks. I lock the ladder in the up position to make access to the kayaks more difficult to reach when we stop in town too.

Do like many of us kayakers have been doing for years, carry them. You don't need the wheels, leave them home. Some authorities (National Parks for one) will not permit you to portage boats with wheeled conveyances.
What we do is each person grabs the lead on the front of each kayak and the back person carries the back handles, of the kayaks. It is just like carrying suitcases. If one is shorter than the other a good leash works well for the shorter one.
Have fun and wear your PFDs.

carry when you have to, wheels when you don't is my motto. No PFD no go in Kayak is my rule. We wear them all the time every time no excuses.
