Will a a $40K SUV EV with 258 mile range be a game changer?

Hyundai Kona EV

I've owned 3 Hyundai Santa Fe's and trust the company. While I haven't seen a Tesla Model 3 fit and finish, at this point I would prefer to buy a Kona over a non-existent 35k Model 3.

I was hoping Hyundai's base model would be closer to 35-37k however.

It would be fantastic if Hyundai can move a lot of these cheaper models. 258 miles of range fits my needs, although I sure would love to have a 600 mile range vehicle.

The base on the Kona EV is $37,500 but $40 is probably more realistic.

No, bought an 'evil' new ICE Camry last April. BEFORE I went to the dealership I researched the model/trim level I was interested in to get a sense of the price. The only variable from dealer to dealer is how many distributor or dealer 'packs' were added to the car. Tesla's outta my league no matter the price new or used. Wasn't looking for a car with a payment equal to or greater than the monthly rent payment......

Yes, LE. But even there the dealer had so many permutations of the LE on the lot the sticker prices were all over the map. Have learned over time the specific model number for a Toyota vehicle is useful in figuring out the real price. One pleasant surprise, the car actually does achieve the same advertised fuel economy shown on the EPA window sticker. A rarity in my experience.

The "base" price on our 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport included a lot of options...some of them we didn't need.

The Kona has a few options (as far as I can tell) included in that base price. If those options are exactly what I want, I will walk in to a dealer and ask to see a base car, or something similarly optioned. That's my freedom of choice.

Of course it'll be next year (2020) at minimum before they come to my state...I can wait until then. First year cars typically have some kinks to work out.

I am sorry but this statement seems to contradict itself.

Not for nothin' but the Hyundai Kona EV picked up the SUV award at the Detroit Auto Show today. Is the Kona on the order of a Rav 4 size wise?

Well duuu. I said that over a year ago! Finally, someone with the lug nutz to call this guy out over his ridiculous claims.
