What type of lube to you use on your 5th wheel pin? I have a lube plate for the hitch but noticed a little groove on the pin itself. I have a sliding bar Reese hitch and want to make sure the bar stays locked, too.
Thanks in advance.

I use teflon trailer ball grease on my pin. Just takes a small amount. Normally the slide bar will wear, before the pin.

I use a small dab of high load bearing grease.

Not so sure it much matters 'what' you use just that you use some type of lube

Is it time for your medication or mine?

I use Bel Ray waterproof wheel bearing grease on my pin. Seems to work fine.

i use spray can lithium grease. I wipe off the pin just before I am ready to hook up and leave the residue on the pin until I-am ready to tow. Also use a little on the hitch jaws same procedure.

I also don't think it matters too much what you use. But I want something that will cling as tight as possible, and nothing clings better than motorcycle chain and cable spray. Stays where I put it. And it is designed to penetrate the rollers in chain, so it wicks into tight places nicely.

But I haven't put it on the pin itself in a long time. Your hitch jaws need lube, so I use the chain and cable spray for that and hit the face where the jaws touch the pin while at it. Which transfers to the pin next time I hitch up.

The maker of the hitch suggested thick bearing grease and that is what I use. Seems to work fine.. Jim2007
