autotransformer corrects for low line voltage, raise voltage and prevent damage to the A/C etc..

MicroAir is a special electronic soft start device that allows for starting the A/C with out the huge generator surge normally needed

two different applications

and while the Microair still helps the A/C no matter what the 110v input source is

the autoformer is NO help to a small generator situation
once you reach the power limit of the generator, that is all there is

Hi MrWizard,

I'd disagree and say that an autoformer is ZERO help with a small generator.

Hi,

Which inverter? I have the 3012 Magnum hybrid. I could start the roof air even before I acquired the microair.

[emoticon] Hi, I just had Micro-Air install a unit on my trailer. No experience yet. My trailer has an 11,000 BTU air conditioner and I have had no problem running it with my Yamaha 2400 generator. My concerns were high altitude and high ambient temps at the same time. This could make it difficult to start the air conditioner compressor. This is why I had a Micro-Air installed.

Their 3 ton unit is sufficient for both 13.5K and 15K BTU AC's. I have 2 15K AC's and recently installed Microair's on each. Definitely less strain on generator when AC starts.

Whenever my a/c starts up on generator, the Sirius boom box shuts off. Perhaps I could use this device.
