A short update.....and I apologize for the delay, as I’ve been busier than a cat covering up doo-doo.

Last Wednesday, September 26th, I had a HOT load of GatorMade trailers that required delivery to Salisbury, NC. I delivered later Wednesday evening, then returned to Hickory, NC for the night and to start my 10 hour break.

On Thursday, I gave ol’ Jim & Kathy a call when I was about :45 away from Waynesville, NC where they are set up. Kathy was about to leave to take one of the dogs to the vet for seizure medicine, but Jim was home. I stopped by and visited Jim for about an hour on Thursday. He seemed to be doing better and was slowly regaining some of his strength.

Kathy indicated that Jim had another MRI on Wednesday, and that his doctor was planning to read it on Thursday. They hoped to have an appointment with him on Friday, providing the doctor had no emergency services to perform. I’ve not talked to either of them since the 27th. I plan on touching base with them hopefully tomorrow.

Hopefully.....it will be some better news than what he received from UVA.

Both Jim & Kathy extend their thanks to all of you that have been asking about them.

Been kinda busy and have not had a huge amount of extra time to update this with any additional information until now.

A brief synopsis from a text message conversation with Kathy from October 8th...

Apparently Jim’s oncologist in NC was in agreement with the doctor they had used at UVA. Unfortunately....they were told that Jim is too frail to have any kind of treatment. They were told to come home and try to enjoy the time he has left. Kathy indicated he was not eating as well as he had previously, and was getting weaker. Kathy said with the last doctor’s appointment in NC and with the confirmation of the UVA doctor’s original diagnosis, Jim had kinda more or less just given up. He was always a talker, and barely talks to anyone much at all now.

Kathy has great children nearby in NC and can count on them. I know it’s going to be tough on her and her family.

Another text message from about 11:30 pm last night was difficult to digest.

Kathy said that she had Jim admitted to hospice earlier Sunday evening. She was having difficulty handling him in the camper. He had gotten to where he was unable to walk, and often became incoherent and agitated.

The nurse indicated to Kathy that it probably would not be long.

My thoughts and prayers out to the family.

I've always enjoyed reading his posts and will miss them.

My only hope is that he passes peacefully with his loved ones close.

I never know what to say in these situations...
"Thoughts and prayers" seems so inadequate, somehow, but, yes, my thoughts and prayers for Jim and his family.

I'm old enough to be frequently exposed to this type of event. The latest one was very hard, my son. I've concluded that the surviving members of the family, and the friends, offer peace, comfort and dignity. Thank you

Well.....I received a text from Kathy around 8:37 EDT this evening.....

“Greg, Jim passed away this morning. He’s at peace now.”

Gonna miss my ol’ internet buddy Jim. He and I shared some great times over on Cummins Forum, as well as a few Cracker Barrel meals in Asheville along my travels.

It’s really hard to express myself in regards to this loss.
