I'm considering purchasing a pickup bed tent. Some have a floor others just clamp to the bed rail. I looking here to see if anyone had experience with either.
Some thoughts-
-with floor the bed would have to be completely emptied to set up.
-with floor it may be more weather tight.
Any thoughts?

You don't say! What does that have to do with my question? I guess I can remind you that you cant move an RV with a flat tire, the awnings out or don't ever set your cruise control to take a nap in the back.

When we were down in the Outer Banks a couple years ago, there was a truck close to us where the guy had pretty much made his own bed tent. Put an air mattress in the bed, set up an easy up over the back, attached sides to it, had lighting on the frame of the easy up along with other accessories. Was pretty cool.

I had one. Used it a few times. Sold it.
I didn’t like having to take it down to go somewhere.
I went back to a tent. I couldn’t stand up in the truck tent and it was harder to get in and out of.

The only advantage is you are off the ground and that isn’t that big of a deal.

Thanks for the input Big Katuna. Everything has it's give and takes. I'm looking around to hopefully find one used for sale.

Every-time I camp in NY or Pa, it rains while I'm setting up the tent.
I just have that black cloud following me, and I got tire of setting up the tent in the rain.
I purchased this last year for my Ram 1500. https://topperezlift.com/
It raises up 24" and has been great so far. Set up the canopy to the P/U and it's like stepping out into the living room.

Built a small raised frame in back and put in a 6" memory foam mattress.
Chairs, canopy and clothes fit under the frame.

I used to sleep in my pickup occasionally, one nighters mostly. I bought an ARE topper that had a full back hatch. That is the tail gate was removed. I could open the whole hatch or just open the little glass door for personal entry. I loved that truck cap, wouldn't buy any other.

I have seen them before, We started with a pop up truck camper about 20 years ago. Check them out you can pick up used ones pretty cheap. They are easy to set up and take down. My son has a roof nest he loves it. Check out the website.
