I had the 5 Star Tune done on my last class C. Yes it did improve the mileage a tad.

The important thing it did was while on cruise control it took a significant (read that as real grade) to cause the trans to downshift. When it did downshift on rolling hills like on I90 in South Dakota the tachometer did not go to 4k rpms. I suspect part of that was due to the extra torque the engine was producing along with other computer wizardry.

All of the above was with Tow/Hall on.

thank you for the real time reply.. most of my 3000 mile was loaded and towing a 3800lb. car with most of the time a almost full water and fuel
thanks again for the reply

What was your mpg before the tune? Sounds like you made a 10-20% improvement which to me is very good. Did you test the performance before and after by chance?

I suspect that the changes you are seeing are changes to the transmission downshift programming. Actually nothing to do with cruise control itself.

One trick on the stock ECU programming I finally discovered last week after 60k+ miles on my '10 chassis E450, is when in cruise and the trans downshifts from 5th to 4th for very little reason, like as in a slight incline that makes for an instant 3700rpm, is to give a quick tap to the Coast button. It does not slow the set speed really at all, and you get an upshift back to 5th.

I have already read the detailed 5-Star turning info in that thread. Basically it changes the transmission shift schedule which is good and also advances the application of the throttle fooling the driver into thinking that the engine now accelerates better (not so good). The thread mentions nothing about changing the cruise control operation. But the OP in the beginning of this thread says that the latest version of the 5-Star now also changes the operation of the cruise control. My question is what actually did they do now to change the cruise control?

I read it and got kinda confused a few times.. to me the 5 star worked great so when I get a chance to try the new tune I will compare. it might be a while. what ever 5 star did made the noise less and trance better
