You are correct. It is because of the all wheel drive. Honestly I'm surprised they allow you to dolly tow at all. I wouldn't dolly tow any awd vehicle.

awd systems prefer that all 4 wheels are rotating at the same speed
if one axle was on a dolly and the other on the ground, the center differential would be worn in no time at high speeds
