OK, there has been a lot of discussion about deleted posts. I really don't care about the deleted posts. But I do feel that rules should be enforced for all.
This post would not have been acceptable by a general user and I don't think its acceptable for moderators. It breaks at least the two following rules:

  • The use of profanity is not allowed. An "integrated watchdog" will monitor your post and attempt to expunge objectionable language.
  • "Flaming" of other participants is strictly forbidden. Professional conduct and respectful behavior towards other members and moderators is a primary requirement for participation on the Open Roads Forum.

While I respect rule rule #1, you reserve the right to remove any post at any time for any reason, it is becoming clear to me that uneven enforcement is one of the reasons this forum is dying. Regardless of the merits (or lack thereof) of his point, he could have been far more professional and far less offensive in making it.

I agree. Moderator was out of line. I have been busted on other forums for much less. I saw it when it was first posted.

I thought it was tongue and cheek and I liked it.

It's not my intent to start another argumentative thread. This was intended as a legitimate forum support question. Its kind of beside the point whether or not it was tongue in cheek or whether you or anyone else liked it. There are many who have voiced an opinion "liking" the original thread and the since closed thread asking why it was deleted. I specifically avoided commenting on the merits of either. I believe it is in the best interest of ALL for the rules to be enforced in an even handed and consistent manner.

When some threads or posts simply vanish and others with the same characteristics are allowed to remain, it makes people question what's going on. Again, I understand, respect, and even appreciate the right and responsibility of the site owners and moderators to perform an often thankless task. They can certainly delete whatever they want, but uneven enforcement and favoritism does have its consequences.

I don't always agree with everything everyone says. I don't think anyone does. I do always try to remain respectful and answer, even critics, in a manner that hopefully doesn't appear to be an attack against anyone. I know there are those who come here simply to find something to disagree with. If that's what makes them happy, that's their concern. I hope to help others, not prove how eloquently (or not) one can be disagreeable or argumentative. I do my best to respectfully disengage those individuals.

I liked it as well. This isn't Sunday School after all. Mr. Plante was just exhibiting his frustration with the adolescent section.

"Who do we notify when moderators break the rules?"

Maybe send a note to Marcus. He might put them in the timeout room for a bit but give them a big hug afterwards, and a cookie.

The fridge doesn't work when he buys a camper so he bashes the brand.
Bashing goes on and on and on.
OP wants the bashing stopped and the post goes away.
The bashing starts up again and the post gets closed.
Now some folks want to start the bashing again.
I have had posts go away and think the moderators are doing a fine job

Perhaps this concern is something to be taken straight to admin.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe admin basically runs the forum, with the mods being "second in command" to him.
I think that admin is in charge of the appointment and delegation of the mods.

Again, correct me if I am wrong here.

Relax and enjoy the ride or go somewhere else.
These moderators are fine compared to many sites.
Keep up the good work.

As I stated in my initial post, I really don't care one way or another about the recent series of threads. They are simply a symptom that's hard for any regular reader to ignore. Since becoming active again over the last year or so, I've noticed a number of threads and posts simply vanish while others that are similar in content remain. Most, if not all that were deleted, were likely out of line. Again, not the point. As far as I'm aware, I've never had a post or a thread deleted. As also stated, I always try to remain respectful.

I realize this isn't Sunday School, but again the rules should apply to everyone. Expressing frustration by joining them is, IMHO, counterproductive. I appreciate that not everyone agrees with me on this point.
