Video: Dude! Where's my tow truck?

My oil pressure light came on while I was in the new Seattle tunnel. I drove about 15 seconds to exit and my engine seized on me. Got the truck and camper home. Engine work begins tomorrow.

Ouch! For what it’s worth, it’s usually too late already when the oil light comes on. Sorry about your motor.

Wow, a tunnel's got to be one of the worst places to have something like this happen. Knowing you had no oil pressure, that had to be a long 15 seconds getting out of the tunnel [emoticon] Hope you find a good, reputable shop to take care of everything.

That plain sucks. Looks like you got out of the tunnel at least.
Would be interesting to find out what happened - that kind of thing is awfully rare.

Good luck!

I once had a rental car die on me just as I was about to go underwater on the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge. I think they are both about 2 miles long and one lane each way. This was back in the 1990s so they may have upgraded them by now.

Sorry to hear about your engine. Can't imagine what you were feeling at that moment. I am a bit curious as to the mileage on it or if you have any guesses at this point. Hope the repair process is as painless as possible. At least it's a great photo of the truck and camper :-)

Well you could be me, and put the THIRD Cummins into your Dodge by the time the thing had 80,000 miles on it!
The early 24-valves have a nasty block-cracking habit if they’re Casting Number 53, which most were! I about sold it and bought one like yours but was so far into it I just fixed it.

Now you have to do the big decision, do I spend more than I’ll ever get out of this truck fixing it, or do I give it away broken for almost nothing and buy another - for even more $$. I still wonder if I made the right call.

It was kind of like ARRRRRGH!!!!! Annd then fricken fracken skuttlebutten good for nothing under powered 5.4 liter. Or close to it, perhaps a touch more animated... got everything home last night. My brother came and hauled the TC home and the same tow driver pulled my truck's carcass home. I'll start pulling things apart shortly. I looking into the possibility of an engine swap with a 6.2 liter. May be more involved than it's worth if wire harness and computer plus other peripherals need to be changed too.

I'll keep y'all informed.
We were really forward to the Fall Colors Caravan too Oct 11th.

I think the activation of the low oil pressure light was designed to provide an explanation as to why the engine has seized tight.
Best install a pressure gauge and occasionally glance at the needle position.
