The USA is now oil independent. Why do we as citizens permit our natural resources to be traded on the international market? Why do we provide military protection for oil companies that price gouge we the people?

Very well said!

And waste our tax dollars and put our men and women in harms way patrolling those hostile seas for the oil trade?

Remember how our inter-state freeway system was built?

On another thread there was a discussion of driving from NE to FL with one overnight stop. I used to do that when RT 95 was being built and we had to drive local roads through parts of NC, now I do it in three nights even though they finished the highway.

Distribution is the problem, maybe today we can solve it in less time.

100 years ago many people didn't want electricity in their homes. I still talk to people who won't use a computer for fear of being hacked.

Yes, you can focus on the negative if you wish, but you're missing all the good stuff.

How will you rate that problem: Not doable at all or impossible? Will take time and huge investment? A must do regardless of cost?

Having lived through several region wide blackouts in the northeast, I would rate it as unwise. Imagine a northeast blackout taking out the entire nation. The grid is split for a reason, not because some engineer forgot to install a cross-over.

I've been reading a few of the reports on the effect of the 2020 sulfur reduction standards for gas and diesel.
I don't see the problem but global Environmentalists are really affecting our pockets.
Some say a price increase of 2 cent a gallon. I hope they are right or a bit high.

Take your pick:

The sky is *not* falling!..[emoticon]

Don't think that's true today. Power and distribution companies have painfully learned from it that they now modernized their tripping and isolation systems.

And with the interconnected grid, it will have effectively a redundant grid that will by-pass and re-route power supplies or add capacities when one area shutdown or trip.

I'm more concerned with the ever-increasing health care costs and associated health insurance premiums. It is way out of control!!!!
