Hmmmm ... if the Earth is flat, why can't a plane just keep flying at any altitude to clear stuff and long enough such that the pilot and passenger(s) can eventually merely look down to see the edge?

Easy-peasy to prove one way or the other - and funny that it wasn't proven long ago in a Piper Cub with a big fuel tank. [emoticon] and [emoticon] and [emoticon]

Even simpler is county roads have correction curves every so often to compensate for curvature.

It's not the road correction for curvature, it's the way land plots were laid out in a grid and they had to be offset. Basically because when land plots were drawn not enough consideration was taken that you can't lay squares evenly on a sphere. The roads bordering those land plots have to follow the borders and so are offset/dogleg.

A straight line is a straight line, you could run a straight road forever without adjustment - square plots of land, not so much.

I was thinking the same thing myself. but isn't this one reason for that ziggidy/zaggidy globe map that prints a flat depiction of a sphere?
