Researchers are testing a cleaver treatment and preventative for COVID-19 infections. The compound being tested is soluble ACE2.

Clinical grade ACE2 as a universal agent to block SARS-CoV-2 variants

Once again - I read the whole thing and understood about 1/3 of it - but this seems like insanely-good news?!

I wonder if ACE2 is the long sought after "universal" flu cure?

It is nice to have a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am cautiously optimistic. My sense of caution stems from concern about possible side effects of treatment with ace2 when the ace2 receptor on cells does perform necessary cellular functions.
ACE2, Much More Than Just a Receptor for SARS-COV-2

Btw, influenza does not use ace2 for cell entry.

Quote:

The influenza virus enters the host cell by having its hemagglutinin bind to the sialic acid found on glycoproteins or glycolipid receptors of the host. The cell then endocytoses the virus. In the acidic environment of the endosomes, the virus changes shape and fuses its envelope with the endosomal membrane. This is followed by a signal to release the virus nucleocapsid into the host cytoplasm. From there, the nucleocapsid travels to the host nucleus.

Speaking of insanely good news, I've seen a couple of PR reports (take them with a grain of salt [emoticon]) that groups are working on a universal coronavirus vaccine. This would protect from all coronaviruses and their mutations - all Sars-CoV versions, cold viruses, enteric viruses. These are still experimental but show promise.

How about some irony....

3 of many drugs tested using HEK293 cell line (besides vaccines):
Hydroxychloroquine
Ivermectin
Remdesivir

ROFL!!! Also - I saw a woman being interviewed about why she didn't get vaccinated, and she replied that she didn't want to put something into her body if she didn't know what it contained. And yet she had tattoos covering both arms and across her shoulders and chest...

Down here the public adopted "cubrebocas" (face masks), limits on numbers of people in stores, distancing, and saturating vaccination sites with participants.

Despite the prevalence of the Delta virus, infection totals, hospitalizations, ICU cases, intubations, and fatalities are dropping daily in reporting cities and towns.

It's tough to argue against cold hard numbers.

I chat with National health care surgeons and they all confirm the above. Masks, density limits, distance minimums, alcohol gel, and temperature verification have combined to decrease cases rather dramatically.

I went to the USA last Thursday and as far as individual measures were concerned, about 40% of people went maskless, stores were packed, and we visitors remained mindful of prevention measures.

This is a report of general level of COVID Delta infection, and if what you mean is to limit this page to public professional medical announcements it is so noted. Thank you.

A question with regards to inhibition of Ace 2 receptors and Rx of Ace 2 medications i.e. Enalapril / Lisinopril. A conflict?
