Unfortunately there are way to many stupid brain dead people that don't see it as the national emergency that it is. Thus putting all the intelligent people at risk.

80.000 people died in the U.S. in 2017 of the flu! Which we have a vaccination for. And 22,000 have died of COVID-19 so far. Even if you keep that rate up it’s going to be less. So I don’t remember a national emergency in 2017!

Those intelligent people that you reference, are those the one that predicted 2.2 milllion deaths in the US, then decided they were wrong and revised it to 1 Million, then 200,000, then 100,000, then 60,000; are those the intelligent people you're referring to? Or are you referring to the sheeple that believe everything they say? The Governors took away people basic constitutional rights based on proven flawed information. Then rather than admit they were wrong, they doubled down.

Sorry nobody has had practice at containing a pandemic before this one. Perhaps some consideration of the effect of social distancing, mask wearing, and closing/limiting business may have had on the original modeling done 6 weeks ago is in order. But the whole point of my post was, that the governors relied on flawed info, then when they found out it was flawed instead of rethinkig their draconian measures, they doubled down.
Welcome to the 2nd Great Depression, enjoy your trip.

That estimate was from London. I'm sure the 2.2M was what they felt would happen w Trump in charge after he said cv19 was going to disappear by April. In reality that estimate opened people's eyes to the potential disaster had we continued sitting on our hands.

Instead many mayors and governors stepped in and slowed the spread.

That's a stretch and it's well established that the government has the authority to isolate and quarantine, etc in a public health emergency. We've had a couple of hundred years of better minds than ours parsing the Constitution. Clearly things don't always mean what we think they do at a casual glance. Carry on.

QUOTING FUNCTION MESSED UP...........
You think they fudged the numbers because Trump is in charge? Please!
The mayors and governors are exactly who should have stepped in to provide local control base on their local information. If a state does not take responsibility then the feds should step in. I am not sure why so many think it should be different.
