I responded to the OP on this, and I see he is also running the adapter with the fifth wheel closer to the cab, same as I am. If wanted he could run that 8 " further back. Without checking I thought with this new fifth wheel it looked like the pin box was a little too close to the tailgate , so I reversed the adapter putting the fifth wheel closer to the cab. Still I have no clearance issues with the cab. My previous fifth wheel with the Morryde pin box I ran the adapter putting the fifth wheel further from the cab.

I started with the adapter in the forward position, pin box further back, since every one I had seen was done that way. I was not comfortable with the pin box to tailgate clearance so it was simple to reverse the adapter, moving the box forward in the bed. Had I followed the Andersen install instructions (measurements), I would have done it that way to start with. No dents... Yet!

When I first hooked up to the Andersen with the new fifth wheel, with it closer to the tailgate, as said didn't like what I was seeing. I was leaving on a trip ,and didn't have time to really check it out, so I reversed it before even pulling out of the driveway. I plan now to leave it that way. I like it a bit more over the axle .

Yes , lately . Thank you for keeping it that way . The subject was a Ram truck , and the Andersen hitch, nothing more was really needed .

Looking at a Ram. Can anyone comment that has an Andersen hitch with the 6' box? What kind of clearance are you getting between the cab and tailgate. What's the orientation of the pin adapter?

Thanks

Hang in for awhile spud as more will drop by and give you their experiences with both products.

Hopefully not .

Why not ?? ...spud is the OP and was asking about a short bed Ram truck and the Andersen hitch.... so I mentioned them as both products....just trying to help spud find his answers by keeping the thread on topic.

Sorry I misunderstood what you meant . I guess you didn’t see or read my replies , I have both products short bed Ram and Andersen hitch.

Here’s the deal he’s concerned with clearance , he should be . He’s thinking about a short bed Ram , the shortest of the three , and a fixed hitch . Biggest things he needs to be aware of using the Andersen is pin box location on the fifth wheel , that will determine the direction of the adapter , and the front cap of the fifth wheel ,how rounded it is .

Here's an advantage of the later Coachmen 5er's, "Turn Tec Engineering". Also shown is a Ft. Knox lock specifically made for the Andersen hitch adapter. Can be found on Amazon, among others.

With the popularity of the Andersen , that is not a bad idea if someone actually has the Andersen hitch, odds say they won't ,they will steal a fifth wheel with a convention pin box , having a convention fifth wheel hitch to do the stealing with .

Yes ,as said before ,just depends on that rounded corners on the front cap. Thats a catchy name " Turn Tec " . pretty simple , just take some inside room out of the fifth wheel ,and make those corners deeper .
