We are towing our 38' here in a few weeks to Julian for the first time. (Not our first time towing, the first time into the mountains)

Living in Pauma (base of Palomar Mountain in San Diego) of course when we normally go up in a car we just head up Palomar 76 > 79. Easy, however, these are some pretty winding single-lane roads that are hard to allow passage keeping up and adequate speed.

Is there a better way to take our train to get up there? Or is this it? We grit and make it happen and apologize the whole way.

We are headed to William Heise.

Thanks all.

79 to Santa Ysabel, stop in the big parking lot, go get a Big Fat Julian pie. Then 79/78 up the hill to Julian.

Impatient drivers who don’t want to catch up to you need to leave earlier [emoticon]

Thank you!

This is what we figured but it is always nice to have confirmation. Slow and off we will go.

We will surely stop and get some pie. Julian is one of our favorite places and happy to add it to our camping spots.

You probably already know this, but use the pullouts to let the faster folks go by. It's been a while since I towed my trailer to Julian, but as I recall there were quite a few apple cider stands along the way. They tended to have pretty roomy parking lots -- that made it easy to pull over and then get back on the road.

We were just on 76 a couple weeks ago going home to Havasu. 40' fifth wheel. Very narrow and windey. With my husbands excellent driving skills it was just fine. You cannot get in a hurry. Pala was a wonderful place to camp.
