They are stopping the sale of A&W Root Beer. Not real root beer in a long time of course.
Wife bought a 12 pack of Diet A&W Root Beer. It lists things that more akin to carmel and is not the least bit strong enough to be kin to root beer. The original root beer was a bit alcoholic, I think, but don't quote me. Grand Ma's last batch of spring tonic made from Sassafras roots etc,I thought was going to kill us. She showed us which roots to dig and skin etc.
That was the foundation of the original root beer I think.
Wife use to work at Dog and Suds in Coldwater, Michigan early 60s on roller skates, Into the90's and beyond, they changed owners but still had great root beer. I told her Mother the price to cross the border was gallon of that root beer. still have one brown gallon empty jug from there.I remember many great frosted cold mugs of A&W and other Root Beers, diabetes be hanged.
So where do we find great, fully carbonated Root Beer now?

Some restaurants/breweries in California make it. BJ’s is one.

Modern A&W turns me off, it’s too sweet now. Try Barq’s or Dad’s.

I should confess, though, that If I have to choose between Vernor’s ginger ale and root beer, Vernor’s usually wins.

SIl the other evening, made some comment, on it, and my wife sad she heard or read it.
Just now checking the Internet I see several of no more Draft A&W Root Beer from a month or so ago. The stuff in Cans from CocaCola doesn't even resemble it.
I thought it was going away too but I don't see it now.

I would recommend this company, Beverages direct. Try the sampler pack and find one you like.

I don't know what is popular in different parts of the country, but in traveling the whole country and sampling Root Beer all over I have to say my favorite is IBC With Real Sugar [emoticon]
