Our propane furnace shuts off with propane still in the tank. When the temperature is just below freezing, upper 20s, our furnace shuts off with 12lbs still in the 20# tank. Our gauge on the tank reads just between green and yellow. This is in a Viking 16RBD hybrid camper.

First guess, is a bad regulator!
Make and model of furnace?
What does the furnace do? Does burner shut down then fan, or does everything shutdown at same time?
Are you running on shore power or battery power?

Probably not a propane problem > More than likely it is something in the furnace or thermostat .

Tank gauges are notorious for not be correct.
have it filled and see if it was empty

Could be moisture in the regulator. If that's the case, you might have moisture in the tank which put it in the regulator. If that's the case, the tank has to be completely emptied and blown out with air and alcohol and the regulator replaced.. Best done by qualified tech.

Dont our regulators have a drain? Keep meaning to look into that. Pretty sure i see mine and its important the regulator be orienteted correctly. (vertical versus horizontal installation)
Maybe the simple fix is drain the reg?
One fella above mentioned possible water in the regulator.

Regulators have a vent, not a drain. If installed in the correct position, it would prevent moisture accumulation on back of diaphragm.

Running on home electric. I weighed the tank and estimate 12# of 20# full. I brought the tank inside for a few hours, and the outside temp is 39°. I just reinstalled in the camper and furnace fired right up. Seems moisture related?
