I was in fourth grade, sitting in class when the principal made an announcement over the PA (which up until then I didn't realize it even worked!). We sat around the rest of the afternoon talking about how we felt and the impact it was creating around the world. For the next 4 days all of the TV networks, all four of them, were carrying commercial free coverage of the events and investigations. Like others, we saw Rubby shoot Oswald right on live TV! THAT was a lot for a fourth grader to take in!

High School 10th grade. Coach gave me his car keys and Another student and I went to his home to get a TV so we could watch the reports. Got back to school and a few minutes later classes were dismissed.
Saw Ruby shoot Oswald on TV.
Everyone was grieving and blamed Russia and Cuba.

Don't think it will. It's in ATC now.
And it is a remembrance of a life changing event in history that many of us remember.

I did notice one thing about all the replies:
I am the only Canadian that posted a reply. Surely I'm not the only Canadian Air Force brat that is here...

I was a young barber at the first barber shop I worked at in Oelwein, Ia. The TV was always on. It was shocking and so sad!

Even though I was only 3 months old when this event occurred, it seems we have a lot of old guys and gals here that remember it like it was yesterday..

I recall the Apollo 11 Moon Landing as a 6 year old like it was yesterday..

I collected all the Apollo mission patches from Apollo 7 thru 17 as a kid and my Mom saved them... I didn't know what ever happened to them.. I'm now 57 years old and seeing those patches brought back a lot of memories..

Sorry, didn't mean to change the topic from the OP... Just bringing back memories since I won't be with family during the holidays this year anyway..

Peace to all and happy holidays this strange and very memorable year we have had in 2020..

Mitch

I was at Tan Son Nhut Air Base near Saigon, Vietnam waiting on a flight to Pleiku when the announcement came over the PA system. You could have heard a pin drop in the normally noisy environment.

I was working at ARA. They had vending machines in all the auto plants in and around Detroit. I was working on a different project for them Mold a Rama was a plastic injection machine under a big plastic bubble. I was prepping a machine that made a bronze colored bust of President Kennedy to take to the Sears store in Highhland Park MI. My boss came up to me and told me about President Kennedy. We decided to hold off installation. Demand was so high that we had to put it in place a couple days later. I was trying to move that weekend and had the Co. truck. As I would go near the Sears store I would have to stop to remove the money and refill the plastic about 3 times a day. There was always a line for that machine for about 2 weeks. They gave up on he machines as not profitable enough. I tried to buy them but they put them in a field in Wilkes-Barre, PA to rust away and said they made more that way than selling them. I still see some in museums and airports.

The greatest tribute we can pay is one of remembrance. Little John saluting the caisson, the prancing horse with the boots in the stirrups turned backward. Jeezo now there are fond remembrances of The Good Old Nineties.

Rest easy JFK you will not be forgotten [emoticon]
