Not familiar with the area around Charleston SC. I’m looking for a CG within about 30 mins of Charleston. FHU preferred but W.E. will suffice. Looking to do some sight seeing in Charleston but would also like to checkout other near by areas. Looked at RVParkReviews but as I stated, I’m not familiar with the area so would like a few suggestions from experienced RVers. Thank for your help and safe travels.

Look no further than James Island County Park. Best place I've ever stayed.

X4 for James Island County Park, and I live in the Charleston area; however, bring bug spray and plenty of bottled water during the summer because it is humid and hot; the park is not far from Folly Beach, too. Historical peninsula of Charleston is a "walking" area, streets very small, find a good parking area next to the Visitors Center; free trolley will pick you up if you get tired of walking.

X5

Very close to civilization but doesn't feel that way. Awesome biking trails, paved. Very close and easy to get to anywhere around Charleston. Great campground to take kids. We went last year in June and immediately booked for June 2021 as soon as we got home. Taking a couple grandkids this year. Only downside is some sites flood after a heavy downpour. Rode our bikes around after a storm and picked good sites for future trips. 29, 110, 75. 29 is a drive thru and is the best in my opinion. We stayed in 75 last year and it was a pretty good site, but it flooded.

If you can’t get into James Island, there is a very nice KOA in Mount Pleasant. Extremely well maintained, nice people.

Nobody has mentioned it yet, but James Island is fantastic. Great park, nice and quiet at night but only a few minutes from Charleston. Great restaurants and plenty of grocery shopping nearby. Prices are quite reasonable and the park has a lot of activities if you are there in season.

Its a relatively short drive to Folly Beach, which is a cool little beach town just south of town.

Sites are plenty spacious. Lots of hiker/biker trails to get exercise. Our kids LOVE the playground nearby, which is a short walk from the campground.

We've been going there for over 10 years and ALWAYS stay there. Mondo's Italian restaurant is one of our favorites. Amazing food and a very nice atmosphere. They have a little outdoor bar area in season. If you like military history you HAVE to go to Mt Pleasant and visit Patriots Point. While you are in Mt Pleasant, Page's Okra Grill is one of my favorite southern style restaurants. Great breakfast and dinner foods. Then you can scoot over to the beaches at Sullivans or Isle of Palms.

Beautiful area, you can't go wrong with just about any decision.

We cancelled a trip there last May because of the initial COVID 19 restrictions. How are the restrictions affecting the area now? Restaurants open? Sights open? In the beginning of the pandemic things got pretty much shut down all over the country. We blew through Charleston a few years back but never stayed. I just don't want to go there and find things still closed and we can't really do much. Any info from anyone in the area would be helpful for those of us wanting to visit. Thankyou in advance.

X6, for the James Island county park and the free shuttle to the downtown Charleston visitors center stops there.
