We are planning a trip to the Moab area in September 2021. What is the best way to position ourselves to see The Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef state Parks?
Are there camping options centrally located to use as a base camp or will we need to use several locations to see everything?
Thanks in advance for any advice you're able to give.

I'd want to have two base locations to really explore those national parks. I'd recommend a park in or near Moab for Arches and Canyonlands. For Capitol Reef I'd recommend Fruita Campground in the park if boondocking is ok, or in Torrey if full hookups are wanted/needed. If you have a vehicle that can do some of the back roads there is lots more that can be explored.

older fossil has it right on about two base camps.
For some info on the Moab area, check out this thread: A Primer on Moab.
You didn't mention Zion or Bryce so maybe they aren't on this trip, but if so, I'd recommend a separate campground for each rather than staying in one and "commuting" to the other. Just too far about and too much time on the road every day.

Absolutely true.

Arch View RV Resort in Moab is a good base for a few of the parks. Good for your first three picks.

Agree with two bases - Capitol Reef is too far to make a day trip from Moab and enjoy the park.
We stayed two nights at Fruita in Capitol Reef and wish we had more time. Four nights at Devil's Garden in Arches, and four nights at OK RV in Moab. Wonderful trip.
We also made a drive through Dead Horse Point State Park - that is a very lovely place to stay. They have electricity 20/30/50 amp and a dump station. No drinking water in the park. Have to get that in Moab.

Went to MOAB Nov. 2020 stayed @ The Portal w/ FHU. Very nice RV park, close to Arch's ( 2 miles) and 4 miles to Canyonlands. Suggest a trip down Shafer Trail 2 or 3 hours. Go to visitor center downtown MOAB. Took a Dan Mick "HELL's REVENGE" guided trip. WOW what a experience, best investment I made.

We stayed at Arches twice. Last time they had onsite ATV/Razor rentals if you want to explore some of the trails.

Just came from Moab, every single campground was full. Camped at Willow Springs BLM land right next to Arches NP. What a view! If you dont have off road capability rent a OHV or take a offroad tour. You will not regret it. Canyonlands was our favorite drive.
