Heck my 2002 Chevy 3500 DRW's factory receiver was only rated for 750/7500.

I upgraded to a 2-1/2" receiver with a 2500/25000 rating. It will tow anything I could conceivably hitch to it, and wasn't much more expensive than a "class IV" hitch.

Why not just use the hitch you have? It will probably do just fine. More than likely if the hitch can’t handle what you’re pulling you’re going to want a heavier truck anyway. Instead of wasting money on a hitch save it to go towards a new truck.

4x4ord,
Go back and read the previous posts. The OP has a GMT800 based vehicle which there was documented hitch failures when these trucks were new. His truck is now 15 years old and they are taking about towing 8000#. Why tempt fate?

I looked at a 1500HD last summer that I wouldn’t have even trusted the hitch to tow my enclosed trailer with. $250 for a new hitch is cheap insurance.

GREAT choice !

Suggest if you would weigh the two, take side by side pictures and post back here for others (especially newbies) who might not understand the difference in design & construction.

Exactly. The OEM receiver on GMT800 were a joke. Towing a utility trailer or light boat was fine with the OEM receiver. Anything with heavy tongue weight was a bad idea.
