Pulling my old '97 flat front profile 11200 lb 5th wheel rv trailer with the '03 2500 Dodge/Cummin NV5600 305 hp/555 torque with a same year Edge box for towing non adjustable bumps hp to around 350 and 650 torque.
I've noticed better mpg (10.5-11.5) in CO/NM/UT/WY/MT mountains than in high winds in OK/KS/TX/NB flat lands (9.5-10 mpg).

Running empty on long trips will average 21.5-22 mpg at legal speed limits.
I ran the truck as my DD for the first 40k miles when new. My commute was a 660 mile a week average all county roads and state hiways and interstate ...no city driving out here. The Cummins would average 20.5 --21.5 mpg week after week.

My style is different than some. I've RVed with station wagons...panel trucks...several truck campers... then some type of RV trailer since the early '60s and have always been interested in getting the best mpg with my equipment. Many times no bucks for fuel or cost of going on a vacation.
Some folks don't have big pockets to buy anything new or the newest or go anywhere they want at that time.

The dash computer tells me I get about 20-22 hwy not towing. 14-16 towing the FW. The 10 speed tranny makes a world of difference and for 2020 there was a noted increase in HP and torque. I couldn't be happier with it.

OK you trying to talk me into a new truck? I have a 15 6.7 CC 3.55 gears and the most I have ever seen was 16 being nice with no tow, with the 5W 12-13 head winds 10.

The 10 speed make that much differance?

I HAD a "15" 6.7 with 3.55... The difference in everything is NIGHT AND DAY to the "20" 6.7 with 3.55..

Unbelievably thrilled every time I get behind the wheel ! ! [emoticon]

There were few F350 CC SRW anywhere, most were DRW. Now you got me wanting to drive the 2020/2021 if I can find a SRW. My 15's stock with a programmer that's supposed to boost 50HP & I forgot how much torque. I figured the 10 speed would help both in towing & mileage.

We where in the market to buy a class A diesel pusher within the next 6 mos. But with the new leadership in DC I’m afraid of the fuel cost going nuts. Therefore we have been thinking about buying a new DIESEL1 ton DRW pickup and going the 5th Wh route.
Curious as to what’s the typical fuel mileage pulling a 5er with a diesel pickup.
PS. Anyone have experience on towing a tag V 5er with the same vehicle and comparing mileage?

My real world mileage based on manual fuel mileage calculations for over 125 tanks of fuel.

All Towing 10.7 mpg
Some Towing 14.3 mpg
No Towing 16.0 mpg

...and to the OP gas prices don't have much to do with who's in DC. It's more about what state you're in. So long as you don't come to California you'll be fine

We tow our 21K 5th wheel with a 2017 Ford F-450 DRW w/4:33 rear end. We get between 9 and 12 MPG depending on the road/wind conditions. We are full time so the truck is also our daily driver. Solo we get between 14-16 MPG. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

For easy planning, figure 10 MPG and you can't go wrong.
