Looking for a new vacuum cleaner-upright, bagless, HEPA filtered. Must be able to pick up pet hair, would like accessories to do stairs and must be able to lift beater bars so as not to damage braided rugs. Have sort of narrowed it down to Shark and Bissell but I've read some of the Sharks are great on floors but not on rugs and can't stop the beater bars. I'm so confused LOL! Suggestions?
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be Douglas Adams
RV-less for now but our spirits are still on the open road.

Can't speak for Shark or Bissell, but we have had a Dyson for about 20 years and it has been great. I'm not sure if they have HEPA or not though. Ours does a great job on pet hair (2 dogs).

We have the Bissell Pet vac. It works on our carpets,hardwoods and throw rugs. Never noticed if the beaters stop,but it works great on hardwood floors and doesn't scratch it.

My wife likes her Miele Dynamic U1. She says she can tell a difference in her allergies when she changes the bag and we have 6 dogs in the house.

We like our Miele HEPA vacuum. They are pricey but will last a long time, ours is 20+ years old.

Shark Rocket - Got mine at Costco for around $150.00. Two position switch; one for bare floors as it stops the beater bar brush. I see Amazon has it for $158.00.

Impressed with what a good little sucker this has been and how much easier and better vacuumed stairs have been.
I've seen a lot of recommendations for cordless stick vacs from Walmart - might want to check those?

Of the two you mentioned I would go with the Bissel. I think they make a good product. I have had the big green machine for rugs for years.
If money is not an issue look at Dyson. My DC25 pet vacuum is HEPA and has been very dependable.
You could always just look for a model “42” and be done with the search.

We bought a Kalorik water filtration canister vacuum cleaner as a cheaper option of the rainbow vacuum cleaner. We are very pleased with the performance. It has a lot of suction power and the water filter picks up a lot of dust, hair, and other particles that might be in the carpet/floor. Also, it has to be noted, if you own a dog, this is the vacuum cleaner you wanna buy. By the way, I addressed the kalorik customer service. It turned out to work great, the representatives were professional and polite (in my opinion, it is important).
