Depends on what books you want to read
Kindle app.. it's free
Then in the Kindle book store search on "FREE"

Thanks. I wondered if the device was capable and will try it out before spending any money.

Get a library card from your local library then install Libby by Overdrive on your tablet. You will have thousands of books to choose from.

I have a hundred dollar 8" Android tablet and would like to explore reading electronic books on the cheap. What is a good app and book source

most library systems have apps and free downloads. if you decide you like them concider buying a real e-reader like kindle or kobo. they are easier on the eyes with the e-ink tech and the battery lasts forever.

On my tablet I have these readers

Amazon Kindle

ALreader

DOCS

XODO PDF reader

With these I can read all ebook formats and plain text files and PDF files

I do buy ebooks from Amazon
I also download free ebooks from Bain Books website
Free service manuals in PDF or text when I can locate them on other sites
Except for service manuals the ebooks are fiction
Sometimes something historical catches my interest

I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I've been using the paid version of FBReader which handles all of the major formats. It's available in the Google Play store.

It also has a feature which will read an .EPUB or .PDF for those times where an audio book isn't available and I'd like to listen while driving.
