I was thinking of planning a trip via Voyageurs National Park this September. Unfortunately it looks like it would be Labor Day Weekend.

I see that all campgrounds within the park are only accessible by water. Does anyone have any information about RV camping in the surrounding gateway communities? I would assume I'll have to look for a private campground for that weekend at this late date.

Also: Is there any phone connectivity up there? It looks quite remote!

Any info you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try this park - we stayed there - make sure you take the boat tour in the park.

Verizon had great service there.

We also stayed at The Pines of Kabetogama and had good service with our AT&T phones. We would recommend this resort to anyone interested in staying in the area. The resort has boats for rent if you are interested in that.

We were there last summer, so things like the boat tours and other attractions were not available. And the VNP Visitor Centers were closed. Not sure what the status is on any of that for this year. You'd probably have to visit the national parks website to find out about any restrictions.

We had our own boat along so did some fishing and boat exploring. There are some hiking trails in the park as well. Be sure and visit the Ellsworth Rock Gardens (only accessible by boat).

Edited to add: One thing to also note is that because the Canadian border is still closed, northern Minnesota campgrounds and resorts have been extra busy trying to accommodate folks who would normally have gone to Canada. It's possible you might find availability somewhat limited. The one resort we always go to on Lake Vermilion said last year that as soon as the border was closed, they started getting phone calls from people looking for alternatives to their Canadian vacations that had to be cancelled. If you are interested, I wouldn't wait to start calling around.
