we have had a change in the way we travel. my wife now does most of the driving. i am comfortable in most weather conditions, my wife is not so much. mostly i look out the window. is there a way to be notified of weather that might affect high profile vehicles?

how do you follow weather?

Check out an app called Highway Weather. You enter a destination and click leave now or plan ahead (future time and date.) It plans the route and gives you a breakdown of weather forecast for each hour along the route. Seems to work OK, but frankly we haven't been traveling enough since I found the app a year ago to really use it.

We just use the weather app on our phone and check the weather forecast for the cities and towns ahead.
Works fine for us.

I use my Weather Channel app to check weather ahead of us on our planned route by entering planned stops along that route. If we find ourselves looking at the leading edge of a very ominous looking line of clouds, I check the radar on the weather channel. If high winds or hail, etc is forecast, we pull over as soon as we can find a parking lot or rest area, etc. and park facing the wind and put down our stabilizers. Then we enjoy the "show".

I use my laptop and ask for local weather for whatever town we are at and for the one we are headed to. If I need a couple days out, I look at the 7 day, and even sometimes use the monthly when planning. Accuweather.com is the most helpful to me. For current extreme weather we have a weather radio that automatically logs us into the county we are in with NOAA reports.

From your phone you can access:

Weather.gov

SPC.noaa.gov (for severe weather info)

NHC.noaa.gov (for tropical weather info)

Better than anyone's commercial app and as close to real time conditions as you can get.

We have an App on our cell-RadarNow. It gives radar view-also shows how/where the weather is moving and indicates what kind of weather. Have used it all over U.S., Canada, anywhere we might go in RV or just traveling.

We have found Wind to be an issue at times. Especially TX, CO, UT.
Windy app seems to be pretty accurate.
