Ghost town out of Lone Pine. Anyone been there? How's the road going in? Worth the drive? Thanks ahead.

No firsthand experience here, but I've heard lots of good things from friends recently, plus lots of buzz from internet strangers.

Worth the drive but no way in a RV. Pretty steep maintained dirt road to the Ghost Town

Cerro Gordo has a website. Look under "What to Expect" for answers to most of your questions.

https://cerrogordomines.com/

There was a fire in 2020. The website doesn't mention it, so info there may be out of date.

Well worth the drive but in at least a high clearance vehicle. 4x4 required after rain or light snow.

We've been to or through Cerro Gordo several times over the years. Lots of interesting mining history at that location. It too bad that one of its great buildings, the American Hotel, burned down a couple of years ago. The main road up from the town of Keeler is usually well graded, but has steep and switch-backed sections. I'd agree that a high clearance vehicle is best. All other roads to/from Cerro Gordo can be serious 4x4 challenges. Call the caretaker at Cerro Gordo to verify if a tour is available when you want to visit. On a clear day the views across the Owens Valley to the Sierras are wonderful.
